A jazz performance at the JCCCW, held on Feb . 19, 2017.

The JCCCW held a small jazz concert on the anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066 on February 19, 2017 at the JCCCW.

The event was titled ‘Panama Hotel Jazz’ and performed by 5 musicians, including Steve Griggs. The remembrance was attended by 80 people, who showed up to enjoy the performance at the late evening of the day. The show was almost 2 hours long and had 17 songs.

Many Japanese American people and local residents came to visit the community center including young kids and elderly people. It was nice to see people interacting each other before, during and after the concert. People greeted each other and enjoyed the show with Japanese snacks and tea. Many people were involved, showcasing the role of the community center as an anchor for the Seattle-area’s Japanese and Japanese American community. This kind of event connected people, provided the community with comfort and enriched their life.

I was glad to be a part of the program and the community center.
