Sugoi! Supporters, sponsors, friends, and guest donated a record $85,000 – and counting – to the Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington during the 7th Annual Tomodachi Luncheon. The March 27th event held at Seattle University’s Campion Ballroom included guest speaker and Tomodachi Award recipient George Takei. The actor, activist, and social media king spoke to a capacity crowd about his World War II incarceration experiences — the audience was mesmerized and inspired by his stories.
World renowned musician Michi Hirata North also dazzled luncheon attendees with a stirring Chopin piano performance. North, who this year celebrates her debut with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo that occurred 75-years-ago, will be holding a performance on September 20th at the University of Washington. The concert will also benefit the JCCCW.
Thanks again to all of this year’s Tomodachi Luncheon attendees, supporters, and sponsors. Our cultural activities and festivals, language school, scholarships, historical research and preservation, public outreach, and services would not be made possible if it were not for your support.
Thanks again and take a moment to acknowledge our sponsors!
